Worldwide emissions of CO2 up 3% in past year

News Update: Carbon dioxide emissions, a prime driver of global warming, grew 3% in 2007. The increase exceeded forecasts by international scientists in the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report 2 years ago and suggested a trend that could result in the worst-case scenario for climate change put forth by IPPC, which predicted a temperature rise of 4 to 11 degrees F by 2100. While 3% doesn’t sound like a lot, consider what will happen if that rate of increase persists for 10 or 20 years. China led the growth last year, providing more than half the increase. The U.S. was second, with a 2% increase, after emissions declined the previous year. Several industrial countries cut their emissions in 2007. Since 1992, world emissions have grown 38%, though the Kyoto Protocol called for a cut of 5% below 1990 levels by 2012. “If we’re going to do something [about the rate of growth] it’s going to have to be different than what we’re doing,” said Gregg Marland, a senior Department of Energy scientist. To describe CO2 as a “prime driver of global warming” is just too ignorant for words.
Readers can start here and follow the links to examine the directly cited peer reviewed science which verifies everything below.
Much of the information below can be verified from this chart and this chart. It is my position that the first chart understates the historic levels of CO2 and that the second chart (my own) correctly states the historic levels of CO2 (based upon this peer reviewed science and the associated data from this file downloaded from this NOAA page).
All those who love biodiversity should look to the Cambrian explosion:
http://www.ucmp.berkeley.edu/cambrian/camb.html
http://www.palaeos.com/Paleozoic/Cambrian/Cambrian.htm
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=cambrian+explosion
At the time of the Cambrian explosion, CO2 levels were approximately 21 TIMES higher than today. All life on this planet is “carbon based”. All carbon in all these “carbon based” life forms came EXCLUSIVELY from CO2! The elevated CO2 levels during the Cambrian fueled the single most explosive growth in biodiversity the planet has EVER SEEN!
Furthermore, during the Ordovician ICE AGE, CO2 levels were approximately 13 TIMES higher than today. And yet, the climate during the Ordovician ICE AGE was VERY comparable to the CURRENT ICE AGE!
CO2 is an EXTREMELY MINOR factor in Climate Change! It barely has any effect at all. The ONLY significant impact from CO2 would come if we allowed CO2 levels to DROP! Every additional molecule of CO2 has exponentially LESS warming effect than the preceding molecule. Conversely, every CO2 molecule removed from the atmosphere has exponentially MORE cooling effect. Cooling is BAD for humans and warming is GOOD for humans (along with the large majority of all other living things).
Click here for a primer on why the IPCC computer models (used, ostensibly, to forecast temperatures 100 years from now) are pure bunk.
Click here for peer reviewed science which is now proving the “Iris Effect” long postulated by Dr. Lindzen to be accurate. If the IPCC were to eliminate the water vapor feedback ASSUMPTIONS from their computer models (as both this peer reviewed science AND observations into paleoclimate suggest they SHOULD), all their hysterical forecasts would be reduced to NOTHING of ANY consequence!
